The Lincoln Memorial was built to honor president Lincoln who was assassinated two days after the civil war was over. This memorial was built in the capital for being the place where he was assassinated in Ford’s Theatre, and or being the capital of the country he fight for. This U.S. honor him for what he did for the country, that was fighting in the civil war to bring back together the country, after several states had separated from the country.

The Lincoln memorial was buildup of marble. The style in which the Lincoln memorial was base was in the ancient Greeks. The Lincoln memorial was a design of Henry Bacon, and the Lincoln statue was design by Daniel Chester. The Lincoln memorial was started in 1911 after president Traft provide a bill of 2 million founds. There weren’t any challenges to build the memorial. That each pillar of the Lincoln memorial stand for a state of the U.S. and when they finish two more states had been added to the U.S. so they add a placard at the bottom of the memorial with the name of the two states. This memorial honor Abraham Lincoln president of the U.S. during the civil war. They honor Abraham Lincoln because he fights for the rights of black people and for their liberties. The most important event that happens here was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. speech I have a Dream.

The part of Lincoln memorial that call most my attention was a placard dedicated to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the title of his speech I had a Dream. What I found more interesting during my visit to the memorial were Lincoln speeches when he became president. I learn that each pillar of the Lincoln memorial stand for each U.S. state. I already knew before my visit to Washington that inside the Lincoln memorial on each side they were written Lincoln speeches, on one side his first election speech and inn the other his reelection speech. What I was really surprise was of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. placard on the stairs of the memorial. When I arrive to the place I was really impress from the view at night of the place, with the lights. It looks really cool. After I felt really fascinated when I read both speeches and the message it sends. After I read the speeches and visualize the hold place I thought that he was really a outstanding president because many people were there not only our group and everyone was as excited as I was. In my personal opinion Abraham Lincoln was an outstanding president and American citizen and that he haves well deserve that memorial cause as him the memorial is outstanding.

The Lincoln Memorial

By: Ana Sofia LopezPortillo
The purpose of the Abraham Lincoln Memorial is to honor Abraham Lincoln, obviously. It was built just for that purpose, to honor The United States of America’s 16th president. This is more of a touristic site. Majorly, for groups of students and tourists. I believe it was built in the capital of the United States of America first of all, because Abraham Lincoln was a very important president and deserves recognition. Second of all because Washington District of Columbia is the United State’s Capital, therefore the monument obviously had to be in the country’s capital and a very important city in the United States.
The Lincoln Memorial is made out of sculpted marble, Georgia Marble. The other structure, that is not Abraham Lincoln, is made out of Colorado Yule Marble. The architectural style is Greek revival and it also has a little bit of neoclassical architecture. I believe the Lincoln Memorial was built this way, with this architectural style, because that was the style and the way of making sculptures of the architect. Henry Bacon was the architect of this memorial and the sculptor was Daniel Chester French. This memorial was constructed on 1912 and the whole memorial was finished on 1922. This structure compares to many of the Greek structures in Greece. This structure is inspired in the Greek Parthenon because of the pillars in the entrance to the memorial. I believe some little changes have been done over the years, like little renovations because a monument that old can’t stay that way for all that long time. This monument is opened to public the 24 hours a day.
